Eterna W. Co. – “BUILT ON TRADITION, DRIVEN BY INNOVATION, INSPIRED BY EMOTIONS”

Since 1856, Eterna is synonymous with timepieces of the highest quality, with Swiss watchmaking tradition, and with an outstanding spirit of innovation. Since the beginning and even until today, Eterna is still characterized by this ingenious creativity. With not doubt, Eterna has enriched and revolutionized the art of watchmaking.

On November 7, 1856, Josef Girard (a physician, and Urs Schild, a schoolteacher) set a movement-blank workshop named “Dr. Girard & Schild” to manufactur high-quality mechanical timepieces born of traditional craftsmanship. Some decades later, the workshop was renamed “Eterna” and by the 1889s, the name Eterna appeared on a watch dial for the first time.

Over its more than 150 years, numerous major developments have emerged from the Eterna’s workshops. Today, Eterna collections still reflect the brand's respect for tradition, in addition to, Eterna's commitment to pioneering new designs and movement technologies.

Pilot’s Wristwatch

Majetek Vojenske Spravy – “Property of the Military Administration”
The Majetek was a model commissioned by the Czechoslovak military and produced by a few different watch companies.

Super RARE vintage timepiece! And dated from circa 1939, this is the original Eterna “Majetek Vojenske Spravy” wristwatch, a pilot’s military watch. During the WWII, the Eterna Majetek pilot’s watch issued to members of the Czechoslovak Air Force as part of their standard equipment, in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Also, Longines was an official supplier and manufactured cushion-shaped (coined bezel) pilot’s watches for the Czech Air Force during the same period.

Inside, this watch is powered by an original Eterna W. Co. manual wind movement, caliber Eterna 520, sub-second, 15 jewels, 3 ADJ, 42-hour power reserve, Swiss made. This movement is the first Eterna caliber for gents wristwatches.

It is cased in the unique 35.8mm cushion-shaped clamshell case, also called turtle case design. A large size case for the time-period, but necessary to house a large dial for legibility in-flight.

This is probably (most likely) one of the earliest versions noted do to the absents of the two cross swords on the top left of the case front.

It features a black enamel dial (showing some patina) with white luminous Arabic Numerals, minute track, large cathedral-style luminous hands, and the sub-second dial at 6 o’clock. The dial is also signed with the Eterna name 12 o’clock.

To match perfect with the style, the watch is coming wit a bran-new black nylon one-piece strap.

This watch is in LOVELY condition! Runs very well and keep great time!

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.

The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
It will be carefully packed.
